Culebra Puerto Rico, one of the coolest places to visit

Known as the “Spanish Virgin Islands”, Culebra & Vieques are the most exotic places in the Caribbean.

Both Culebra and Vieques share spectacular sunrises and sunsets; crystal clear water beaches and both are considered hidden natural treasures. These Islands however share a history of being used by the United States as locations for military practices.

Nowhere else in the Caribbean can you find islands so unspoiled and uncrowded. If you want to sail the ocean on a boat with your own captain, fresh, food and rum cocktails on board, you have it, two minutes walk along a white sandy beach to a small pier.

Culebra Puerto Rico

Culebra was a USA military territory until 1973 and Vieques until 2003, however it is part of the United States Wildlife Services.

Flamenco Beach in Culebra is one of the few beaches in the world consistently ranked and included on the “Best World Beaches” lists.

Across the island, at the Zoni Beach entrance, you can take a day trip to Culebrita, a small island two miles off Culebra. Culebrita Lighthouse, one of the Caribbean’s oldest, crowns its top.

Club Seaborne is a clean, well-reviewed hotel with rooms and villas overlooking the bay, free daily breakfast plus kayaks and bicycles for guest use.

Vieques Puerto Rico

If you want to experience a truly great escape, you must know that Vieques has won the Reader’s Choice of Best Tropical Island Escape for Travel & Leisure World Best Awards. One of the reasons is the fact that Vieques is a nature preserved island.

You will have own personal Caribbean beach, guaranteed. There are 40 beaches on the island, each with its own charm. La Chiva is a broad bay with islands dotted off the coast that makes it perfect for paddle boarding, snorkelling or swimming.

Navio beach is a small bay with rocks for snorkeling, white sand and some of the bigger waves. Playa Prieta, in the Nature Reserve on the east of the island, is a sheltered bay with white sand and plenty of natural shade from forrest and palm trees.

W Retreat & Spa is the best hotel in the Island, although not for everyone’s budget. On the cozy side there is El Blok, a laidback, boutique hotel designed to draw in the golden Caribbean light through amorphous holes in the walls that cast mirror-ball-style pools of sunlight across floors and walls.
