¿Is Uber in Puerto Rico?
If you follow the news, or are a regular user, you should know that there’s already Uber in the Island! however it has suffered some changes along the way that might cause some confusion in regards to the service’s availability.
The principle behind Uber Puerto Rico is simple. Using a mobile application, anyone can request transportation to virtually any location. Simply set an account in the application and indicate where you want to go. In a matter of minutes, a driver or driver will pick up the passenger and take him to his destination. There is no exchange of money between the parties; everything is done through the application.
Uber has been well received on the island, where public transportation is poor. The system has been the ideal alternative for all types of people, from executives to students and tourists to the average citizen who may have his vehicle broken or do not want to drive after a night of fun. The speed of service and low rates have captivated users.
Uber currently operates in the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico,
The Uber Puerto Rico service is available from Dorado, west of San Juan, to Fajardo, in the east of the island. The transportation network also operates in the cities of Caguas and in the regions around the cities of Ponce in the south and Mayagüez in the west.
However, the passenger can request service to any point on the island. For example, a person who is in Bayamón, could request a trip to Arecibo. In this case, the Uber driver can offer the trip, if it is outside his work plan. In a situation like this, the passenger must re-request the service. It is recommended that when requesting this type of trip, the passenger communicates immediately with the driver and indicates his destination, to verify that the driver is not willing to make the journey.
According to regulations of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, Uber Puerto Rico drivers cannot pick up passengers at airports, docks, hotel entrances or taxi waiting areas. Although these are the only restricted areas, groups of carriers do not recognize the regulation, which has given way to incidents. On the other hand, there are no limitations to the places where Uber can leave passengers.
